Skilled – Nominated or Sponsored (489)

Like all skilled visas, the Skilled – Nominated or Sponsored (489) visa is a points-based application. The purpose of this Visa is to encourage migrants to settle and work in regional areas of Australia that are suffering from skill shortages and where there are many unfilled positions.You must be working in a job on the Consolidated Skilled Occupation List (CSOL) and then meet requirements around your age, English competence, training and work experience.

This is a provisional visa with a 4 year term however this visa can be a pathway to permanent residency. There are two pathways to this visa you may be sponsored by a state or Territory government or a eligible relative who is an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or an eligible New Zealand Citizen. Once granted you will be required to reside for 24 months and be employed for at least 12 months in a specific regional area of Australia you are eligible to apply for permanent residency and live in any part of Australia.

This is an invitation only visa. To be invited to apply you must first lodge an “Expression if Interest” (EOI), this places you in a pool with other applicants and once your application has been assessed and you have a positive skill assessment and state sponsorship you will be invited to apply.
